Canine Intestinal Model

The canine intestinal model was developed during the pandemic as a way to practice suturing and surgical skills remotely. Students were sent a kit of surgical instruments, suture and various models. All supportive educational materials were made available to them on a learning management system; to include surgical videos of the various procedures, text book chapters, active learning handouts, and lectures. Additionally, online synchronous discussion and learning sessions were led by instructors followed by students’ demonstrations of learning. The model and supportive content utility persists despite cessation of the pandemic in a clinical and surgical skills context.
