Low and medium fidelity feline cystocentesis model used in anatomic and clinical skill building courses.
This model is based on a framework of a purchased plastic cat skeleton, which was dismembered so limb joints could be articulated and limbs reattached. The low fidelity model has a synthetic urinary bladder attached in an anatomically correct position and a stockinette placed over the torso as skin. Polyester fill is then stuffed into the abdominal cavity around the bladder to maintain proper bladder positioning. The low fidelity model allows for proper restraint techniques to be utilized while cystocentesis is performed.
The medium fidelity model incorporates a purchased cat stuffed animal for use as the skin over the same articulated plastic skeleton, which is then stuffed with polyester fill to ensure the bladder is in an appropriate and realistic position within the abdominal cavity. The Frankie Model is also used to ensure proper restraint as well as cystocentesis.
The urinary bladder consist of an off-white water balloon filled with yellow colored water. This balloon is filled to be an appropriate size for a cat bladder. It is then dipped in Flex Seal® three separate times- drying in between each dip. This sealing process allows repeated insertions from various gauge needles. A zipper is installed in Frankie so his urinary bladder can quickly be replaced, when needed.
