Jugular Vein Access - large animal
Low-fidelity jugular vein model used to teach the hand mechanics of jugular venipuncture for medication administration or venous blood withdrawal. It is also used to teach the assorted clinical skills associated with placement of a sterile IV catheter, as well as its securement.
Adaptors can be placed in each end of the silicone tubing and red colored fluid run through to make the model "live" to provide positive feedback, as needed. The model is also bilaterally patent so students are able to practice all skills with non-dominant hands and differing perspectives/access (left versus right side).
This model was designed to mimic the feel of our equine patients (built in varying size and adjustable heights from ponies and minis all the way through draft-sized models) but also serves to approximate IV access in our bovine patients as well.
Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, "I will try again tomorrow".
